“Finally in a moment where upon immigration
reform is … within our grasp” –Pres. Obama

(Image taken from CSPAN broadcast)
Standing at
the podium in Del Sol High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, President Obama
outlined three key markers for his principles regarding immigration
reform. President Obama
stated that creating ladders of opportunity is an important aspect of
comprehensive immigration reform, so that those who want to stay in
America and participate in making our nation greater includes “getting
on the right side of the Law”.
The
three key markers for the foundation of good, comprehensive immigration
reform are: 1) stay focused on enforcement by strengthening the borders
and making sure employers verify employment status before hiring;
2) deal with the 11 million individuals who are here illegally and
make it clear to them that “there is a pathway to citizenship”
--- pass a background check, pay taxes, learn English and get in the “back
of the line” to apply for citizenship;
3) bring legal immigration system into the 21st century
so that citizens don’t have to wait for years to have members of
their family join them, and help foreign entrepreneurs and students to
enter the country and create new jobs in the country.
With momentum building in support of immigration reform, President
Obama and members of Congress are on course to engage in the biggest
national debate about immigration policy with far reaching impact on
education, business growth, health, national security and every other aspect
of American life and identity.
